Nhóm nghiên cứu của giáo sư Riccardo Polosa đã theo dõi một nhóm người trẻ tuổi chưa từng hút thuốc nhưng thường xuyên sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử. Tình nguyện viên tham gia được theo dõi và kiểm tra trong vòng ba năm rưỡi, kết quả của họ được so sánh với một nhóm người không sử dụng hai dạng sản phẩm này.
“Chúng tôi không thấy dấu hiệu sụt giảm chức năng hô hấp, triệu chứng viêm phổi hay tổn thương trên HRCT khi so sánh với nhóm người không hút thuốc, không sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử.” Nhóm nghiên cứu khẳng định. Các nghiên cứu viên nhấn mạnh, dù người sử dụng thường xuyên nhất cũng không hề có triệu chứng tổn thương hay viêm phổi, không phát hiện thay đổi trong huyết áp và tốc độ tim.
Giải thích của giáo sư Polosa về xơ cứng mạch
Những phát hiện này đưa ra câu trả lời về vấn đề xơ cứng mạch cho các chuyên gia y tế. Một nghiên cứu được đưa ra trong Hội đàm về hô hấp Châu Âu được tổ chức vào tháng 9 năm 2017 ở Milan, Italy, đã chỉ ra rằng vape có thể làm tăng các chỉ số cơ thể và gây cứng động mạch trong chốc lát.
Trả lời cho thắc mắc ở trên, giáo sư Peter Hajeck, giám đốc phòng nghiên cứu thuốc lá ở đại học Queen Mary, Luân Đôn, cho thấy có những hoạt động khác mang lại hiệu quả tương đương với cơ thể mà không hề có hại. “Đây là hiệu quả kích thích thường thấy của nicotine và hoàn toàn vô hại. Uống một ly cà phê cũng mang lại hiệu quả tương tự.”
Cần những nghiên cứu quy mô lớn hơn
Nghiên cứu của giáo sư Polosa được đăng trên báo Khoa học cho thấy, dù quy mô nghiên cứu còn nhỏ, nhưng “kết quả nghiên cứu đã cung cấp bằng chứng sơ bộ cho thấy sử dụng thuốc lá điện tử thời gian dài không gây ảnh hưởng đến sức khỏe”. Tuy nhiên, nhóm nghiên cứu cũng cho rằng, họ cần thêm nhiều nghiên cứu chuyên sâu với quy mô rộng hơn.
